Summer Wardrobe Staples for the Office.

With warmer weather finally arrived, it’s time to start thinking about what to wear throughout the hot summer months. Sadly, beach attire isn’t entirely appropriate for work, but there are plenty of stylish options that will keep you feeling cool and keep you looking office-ready. There are certain closet staples that get me through the season, so I’ve rounded up my top 5 pieces that deserve a starring role in your summer work wardrobe:

A Shirtdress

Not sure which blouse goes best with those new trousers? No worries! A shirtdress is the answer to getting dressed in the morning in a snap. A good versatile piece in a cotton or linen material is perfect for travelling through a cramped commute and will keep you looking (and feeling!) fresh throughout the day.

Culottes

Staying breezy and comfortable is the key to summer dressing, which can be difficult to adhere to in an office environment while still maintaining a professional look. Enter the culotte: the trousers that are loose enough for a hot summer day, but still manage to make you feel put together and stylish. They’re super on trend at the moment as well, so you’ll be able to find tons of options to suit every style.

Printed Camisole

A printed camisole is a piece likely hanging in your closet that doesn’t always get the attention it deserves. As for styling a printed cami, it works just as well with a pair of jeans on a casual day as it does with a blazer for a more polished vibe. Available at every price point and nearly every colour and pattern imaginable, the options are really endless!

Layering Jacket

If your office is anything like mine, the temperature can fluctuate greatly throughout the day. Without resorting to being the unpopular person on the team who fiddles with the thermostat, the best way to combat the changing temperatures is to come prepared with a lightweight jacket. A denim jacket, a blazer, a military jacket, or even a cardigan are all great choices to keep on hand to throw on when it starts to get chilly.

Chunky Sandal

One of my favourite things about summer is the ability to wear whatever type of shoes I like, and not having to worry about my feet ending up wet or cold. Currently my go-to shoes are sandals with a comfortable heel in a neutral colour to go with any possible outfit. Sandals can sometimes be an office no-no, so just be sure to double check your company’s dress code to be sure that they’re allowed. As for me, I’ll be enjoying as much time in them as I can get until fall.
